Splash Press Release (Press Release) – Aug 02, 2012
The Dr. Oz Show in May 2012 reviewed acupressure mats for a second time. These mats have come to the USA and UK following the Swedish craze in which – reports The Independent in London, UK – over 300,000 of one brand alone have been sold.
These massage mats are inserted with discs containing plastic spikes. Based on the Hindu bed of nails concept used by yogis in India over the centuries, supposed health benefits can include natural relief of back pain, allergies, jet lag, insomnia and depression.
Geoffrey Hossie, co-founder of LotusMasters, a retailer of high-end acupressure mats based in London, England, comments on the craze: “empirical evidence of the effectiveness of these mats in successfully treating many ailments is growing. We believe daily use of the TPE version, which has taken the traditional acupressure mat and re-designed it for greater effectiveness and ease-of-use, is a first line of defense against chronic stress and disease.”
A 1999 study on the device presented at the Omega Institute found 98% of users reporting pain relief, 96% relaxation, 94% improvement in the quality of sleep, 81% increased energy level and a 50% success rate in allergy symptoms relief among sufferers.
